Welcome

Welcome to the online home of the Cleveland Design Competition. The Cleveland Design Competition is an open, anonymous, single-stage, ideas competition founded as a tool for generating architectural ideas around under-utilized sites and showcasing the talent of designers on Cleveland's built and unbuilt environment.

In its first year in 2007, the competition saw 200 designers in 10 countries submit ideas for Irishtown Bend in Ohio City. In 2008, over 235 designers from 15 countries submitted ideas for an Intergenerational Playscape in Detroit Shoreway. In 2009, over 175 designers from 16 countries submitted ideas for a state-of-the-art multimodal transportation center planned for Cleveland’s Lakefront. At the conclusion of each competition, the winners are announced at a public exhibition of the entries by representatives of the Lincoln Institute of Land Policy including Kathryn Lincoln, Chair of the Board of Directors of the Lincoln Institute of Land Policy, and Armando Carbonell, Senior Fellow and Chair of the Department of Planning and Urban Form.
